Adolescent substance abuse is one of the most prominent issues that are affecting young people today. Misinformation concerning drug use among adolescents is rampant leading to early sickness, disease and death. It is through primary prevention education programs, community participation, and parental knowledge of drug substances and overall awareness.

SIGNS THAT YOUR CHILD MAY BE USING DRUGS

Dramatic changes in style of clothes, hair, and music.

Hanging out with a bad crowd.

Tardiness and or truancies.

Lack of motivation in school.

Isolating from family.

Dramatic changes in attitude and personality.

Changes in sleep patterns.

Excessive use of foul or obscene language.

Eating way too much or way too little.

Paranoia

Dilated eyes- red eyes- glazed eyes

Sudden bursts of anger

Lies!!!

Dramatic mood swings

Excessive money requirements or money disappearing

Talking too slow or too fast.

What you have just read are possible signs that your child may be experimenting with drugs or alcohol. Or they may be signs that your child has other problems. There is no right answer all the time. Be on the lookout for drastic changes in your child’s behavior. You are the person best to spot the warning signs of your child’s problems – drug related or not – because your are the person who knows your child the best.
